A national chain with a Burlington location will be closing its local store as part of a bankruptcy due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
As reported by WUSA, cookware and kitchen chain Sur La Table is closing 50 of its 120 locations, including the store in the Burlington Mall. The Seattle-based company will sell the remaining stores to an investment group following the bankruptcy procedure. That sale will also include the company’s in-person and online cooking classes and its e-commerce sites.
“Sur La Table opened its doors in Seattle’s historic Pike Place Market nearly 50 years ago, inspired by our founder Shirley Collins’ love of cooking,” the company said in a note on its Facebook page on July 8. “That inspiration remains strong, but a lot has changed since then.”
“Today, we took an important step to ensure a bright future for Sur La Table,” the post continues. “While things are different now, our mission remains the same: to create happiness through cooking and sharing good food.”
