Varsity Volleyball Team Prepares for Upcoming Season

Another fall sport is ready to get back on the court.

This week BNEWS had a chance to speak with Girls Varsity Volleyball Coach, Courtney Wall about the upcoming Volleyball season and what they have been doing to prepare for the fall of 2018.

In the offseason, Coach Wall attends the Massachusetts Girls Volleyball Coaches Association to focus on new training exercises and pointers for the team.

“I attend the MGVCA Clinic to learn from the head clinician Tom Hilbert from Colorado State,” she said. “I learn a lot of new drills and focal points that will definitely fit into our practices.”

Courtney and her coaching staff also work together during the offseason to ensure the team is up to speed for the fall.

“We always do a lot of planning together in the offseason to make sure we are entering the new season as prepared as possible,” Wall said.

The volleyball season had a heart breaking loss last year against Danvers in the third round of the tournament. The team did finish the regular season with a 12-7 record to end the year.

“We were definitely proud of this finish and everything the girls accomplished throughout the season.” She said.

Courtney motivates her players to become strong individuals on and off the court.

“We want the girls to not only grow as a volleyball players, but also to grow as positive individuals within the team, the school, and the community.” Wall said.

The upcoming schedule is no easy task; Coach Wall wants to have the girl’s play their hardest during the game not matter who their opponent is.

“Within the Middlesex league you can certainly never underestimate any team so we will enter every game with the same competitive mentality and focus on each game one at a time.” She said.

One of the main concerns for the team is finding the players who will fit the spots for the graduated seniors who played during the 2017 season.

“Our first major focus going into this season will be finding players to fill the roles of our three graduating seniors from last season, who all played a key role in our team’s success.” Wall said.
