Here’s a rundown of your Spring Sports as multiple teams headed to the Middlesex League Playoffs.
Girls Varsity Softball:
Girls softball traveled to the Winchester Turf Field on Monday, June 14 to take on the Woburn Tanners in the Middlesex League Tournament Championship. Woburn ran around the diamond 19 times and Burlington went 7. The final in the game was 19 to 7 Tanners. The Red Devils will be heading to the MIAA Playoff Tournament in the coming days.
Boys Varsity Baseball:
Red Devil Baseball headed to Arlington in the 1st round of the ML Tourney on Thursday, June 10. The team only scored 6 runs while the Spy Ponders had 10. The final score was 10 to 6 with Arlington taking the win. Burlington faced the Spartans on June 12 in a consolation game in Stoneham. The Red Devils had three runs, while Stoneham had 8. Burlington’s final regular season record of the year was (3-7). Baseball awaits the schedule for the MIAA Tourney.
Girls Varsity Lacrosse:
Girls Lacrosse hosted the Woburn Tanners on Thursday, June 10 at the Marshall Simonds Middle School Brush Field. In the first period, the Tanners had 5 goals, while the Red Devils with 1. Burlington caught up to the Tanners in the second with an additional 6 goals. At the half it was 8 to 7 Woburn. The Tanners momentum stayed in tacked as they added another 4 goals to the board, Burlington got their final three goals in the third. 12-10 at the end of the third. The tanners added one more goal in the fourth. The Red Devils lost the game 13-10. The team is awaiting the MIAA State Tournament.
Boys Varsity Lacrosse:
Boys Lacrosse hosted Winchester in the 1st round of the ML Tourney on Thursday, June 10 at MSMS Brush Field. Winchester had 8 goals and the Red Devils had 6. Final score was 8 to 6 Winchester. The team then faced the Lexington Minutemen in a consolation game on Saturday, June 12. The Red Devils had a big momentum shift as they outscored their opponent 13 to 6. Burlington is preparing for the upcoming for the MIAA State Tournament.
Girls Varsity Tennis:
Girls Tennis had matches in the Middlesex League Tournament against the Belmont Marauders and the Arlington Spy Ponders. First match was against Belmont where they won by a tight score of 3 to 2. They then faced the Spy Ponders where they lost 2 to 3. Winners in that match came from Kacey Pustizzi at second singles and Annabel Wiley/Sam Matai at 1st doubles. Next stop will be the MIAA State Tournament.
Boys Varsity Tennis:
Boys Tennis hosted the Belmont Marauders on Thursday, June 10 in the first round in the Middlesex League Tourney. Burlington lost the match 5 to nothing. The Red Devils headed to the consolation round for a match against the Watertown Red Raiders where they won 5 to nothing. The team is gearing up for the MIAA State Tournament.
Girls Outdoor Track Varsity:
Girls outdoor track hosted the Middlesex League 12 meet on Thursday, June 10 at Varsity Field. Teams that participated in the meet were Reading, Lexington, Wilmington, Wakefield, Woburn, Belmont, Winchester, Arlington, Melrose and Stoneham. The Burlington girls team finished in 5th place with 75 points. The Red Devils are awaiting the schedule for the MIAA Tournament.
Boys Outdoor Track Varsity:
Boys outdoor track hosted the Middlesex League 12 meet on Thursday, June 10 at Varsity Field. Teams that participated in the meet were Reading, Lexington, Wilmington, Wakefield, Woburn, Belmont, Winchester, Arlington, Melrose and Stoneham. The boys were in third place with 107 points. The Red Devils are awaiting the schedule for the MIAA Tournament.
Boys Varsity Wrestling:
Red Devil Wrestling headed to Watertown to take on the Red Raiders on Friday, June 11. Pins in the meet were made by Joe Perna, Zack Soda, Cam Soda, Jack Laverty and Tim Vadnais. The Devils fall to the Red Raiders by a score of 33-37. Burlington finishes out the regular season at (7-3) and are looking forward to competing in the Dual Meet Sectionals.
Boys Varsity Swimming:
Burlington swimming had a meet on Saturday, June 12 against the Belmont Marauders at the North Suburban YMCA in Woburn. As of right now, the results have not been posted.
